'We decided to hire a teacher and travel for two years. Anthony Millard Consultancy met with us to determine our requirements and understand the type of person we were looking for. We were so happy with the process, they screened and brought forward experienced and talented candidates. We employed a candidate as our children's sole teacher for the last 2 years, and it has been a wonderful experience.'

CEO, Aga Khan Education Services, Kenya

Leadership Vacancies

Required for July 2012

Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), currently operates more than 300 schools and advanced educational programmes that provide quality pre-school, primary, secondary, and higher secondary education services to students in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Kenya, the Kyrgyz Republic, Uganda, Tanzania, and Tajikistan. As a secular, non-denominational institution, its programmes are offered to members of all communities, reflecting the strong belief held by AKDN in the positive value of pluralism and diversity.

In East Africa, AKES currently operates 19 schools, catering to some 8,787 students and employing 526 teachers. AKES operates as a not-for-profit agency and the services it provides are often subsidised.

AKES is committed to achieving excellence by continuous improvement of its programmes, services and processes. These activities are planned, organised and financed primarily through national service companies and boards. The boards operate facilities and programmes in close collaboration with other AKDN institutions, government agencies and selected external partner agencies.  AKES in East Africa benefits from its association with AKES country networks in South and Central Asia. Models of education that have proved successful in one region are modified and replicated in other regions, thus creating a unique educational system based on universally shared expertise.

AKES is currently seeking to recruit a Chief Executive Officer for AKES, Kenya.  The CEO will be responsible for leading its operations in Kenya; for developing and articulating the organisation’s strategic direction and objectives, and for formulating and implementing immediate and long term plans as well as developing and managing budgets.

To be the successful candidate, you will be a visionary and dynamic leader. You will demonstrate entrepreneurial instinct and have an extensive knowledge of contemporary developments in the global education arena. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as cultural awareness and sensitivity. Highly qualified in business and/or education management, you will have substantial senior leadership experience, preferably within education organisations.
