FOUNDING DIRECTOR and DEPUTY DIRECTOR (PASTORAL), Malvern College Qingdao, China

Malvern College, in partnership with Babylon Education, seeks to appoint a Founding Director and a Deputy Director (Pastoral) for Malvern College Qingdao, China, which is set to open in September 2012 in a purpose-built campus located just outside the city centre.

Qingdao is a major seaport in Shandong Province, looking out over the Yellow Sea and one hour’s flight from Beijing and Seoul. It has a rich heritage and a temperate climate. It is one of the most affluent and fastest growing cities in China and in 2009 the city was deemed the most liveable city in China. Students at the College will be some of the brightest Chinese youngsters from the province. They will generally be aged 16 and over, and, after an initial foundation year, will follow a two-year A level programme with the aim of gaining admission to leading universities worldwide. Initially the College will have about 100 students, but will grow over 4 or 5 years to have 1000 students in total. It will be fully boarding.

The Director will have full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the College, as well as a central role in its development.

The Deputy Director (Pastoral) will have broad responsibility for the pastoral life of the College, including the boarding provision and the co-curriculum.

The successful candidates will work closely both with Malvern College UK and with Babylon Education’s Oxford and Harvard educated Chinese founders, to shape and develop the school into a leading international educational institution.

Both posts command highly attractive packages, at least matching those of comparable posts elsewhere.

Closing date: 2nd March; initial interviews at Malvern College on 15th March; final interviews, probably to take place in Qingdao, in early April.
