HEAD OF EDUCATION, Aga Khan Education Services, Kenya
Required for July 2012
Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), currently operates more than 300 schools and advanced educational programmes that provide quality pre-school, primary, secondary, and higher secondary education services to students in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Kenya, the Kyrgyz Republic, Uganda, Tanzania, and Tajikistan. As a secular, non-denominational institution, its programmes are offered to members of all communities, reflecting the strong belief held by AKDN in the positive value of pluralism and diversity.
In East Africa, AKES currently operates 19 schools, catering to some 8,787 students and employing 526 teachers. AKES operates as a not-for-profit agency and the services it provides are often subsidised.
AKES is committed to achieving excellence by continuous improvement of its programmes, services and processes. These activities are planned, organised and financed primarily through national service companies and boards. The boards operate facilities and programmes in close collaboration with other AKDN institutions, government agencies and selected external partner agencies. AKES in East Africa benefits from its association with AKES country networks in South and Central Asia. Models of education that have proved successful in one region are modified and replicated in other regions, thus creating a unique educational system based on universally shared expertise.
AKES is currently seeking to recruit a Head of Education for AKES, Kenya. The Head of Education will be responsible for overseeing the educational programme performance of all 11 AKES, Kenya schools. This will involve leading, mentoring and guiding Heads of Schools in curriculum implementation, teacher development, school improvement and school performance in national and international examinations and co-curricular programmes.
To be the successful candidate, you will be a highly experienced educational leader with in-depth knowledge of local and international curricula. You will have a thorough understanding of contemporary developments in the global education arena and of effective frameworks for school improvement planning. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as cultural awareness and sensitivity, will enable you to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. A post-graduate qualification in education leadership or curriculum would be an advantage. Importantly, you will be innovative, dynamic, enthusiastic and a team-player.
