Leadership Recruitment

Our success is in appointing outstanding Heads, Principals, Bursars, Directors of Education and other senior roles for leading independent and state schools throughout the UK and worldwide. We have an established high quality, strong reputation, and aim to support excellence in education.

From our personal experiences of school and business leadership and management, we appreciate how critical it is to find the right person for the job.

Drawing primarily upon our extensive network of contacts, as well as our unrivalled, quality-assured candidate database, and with our combined wealth of knowledge and experience of the education sector, we attract and appoint the very best candidates for these key roles.

We listen carefully to our clients – we take time right at the start, to secure an in depth understanding of your needs and the context of the school/s. With our strong knowledge and understanding of the sector, and direct experience of running schools and groups of schools, and as governors, we can be sure to secure a deep appreciation of the context for the appointment and the key skills, attributes and qualifications required.

Once we have assimilated the client brief, you can be secure in knowing that the search has commenced; that the advert and application pack will be designed in close communication with you, and that you need do nothing until the longlist is presented. The lead AMC consultant will seek out candidates, as well as review applications as they arrive, keeping you updated regularly.

Our consultants’ own education leadership backgrounds mean that questions are asked of each potential applicant, to explore the person in the job, not merely a check that the person specification criteria are met; our knowledge of the breadth of the school system globally, enables candidates who may have over-emphasised their CVs to be filtered, and we can readily check candidate assertions through networks and contacts informally. Our unrivaled experience and insight is brought to the fore during this part of the process.

We explore the background and references of candidates; we ask detailed safeguarding questions and a safeguarding self-declaration is secured; we carry out in-depth initial interviews of each candidate presented for long list, in person where possible. Psychometric profiles can be included, if required by the client. We ensure that no potential candidate is ignored, nor that the maverick or unusual candidate is discarded. Our mission is to find the best person to add value to your school; we do not have a list of people we wish to ‘place’ – each search is individual and unique to each client.

As an integral part of the recruitment process, we provide advice on contractual and legal issues, and support with the offer and negotiation – acting as the conduit between the client and the candidate. We undertake the debrief with candidates, giving honest and constructive feedback for continued and positive professional growth.

Over the years that AMC has been recruiting, many clients repeatedly return to us for their recruitment needs, giving clear testimony to the value that AMC brings to their schools.

With our many years of experience, recruiting key professionals to posts across the globe, it is easy for prospective clients to check their networks – to assure themselves of the high level of service and outstanding quality that AMC provides.

Let us do the intensive work to seek out and secure great candidates for your vacant post, while your time remains focused on your school and its children and young people.

Having found our current Principal through AMC, the Trustees of the British School in Tokyo needed no persuasion to approach Anthony Millard again to lead the search for an outstanding Head of Secondary. Once more, we were delighted with both the process and the successful outcome. AMC delivered a very strong field, matching the demanding criteria set out in our person specification, and as a result we were able to appoint a first-class addition to our Leadership Team.
