Dukhan English School

Qatar

Required: August 2019

Closing date: 26 November 2018

Co-educational • 3 – 18 years • 1300 pupils.

Dukhan English School (DES) is one of the oldest international schools in Qatar. It also benefits from being the only international school serving Dukhan. Its students are accommodated across two schools, the families of whom are all Qatar Petroleum (QP) employees. As such, the Principal plays a prominent part in the town as a whole; the sense of community is a key factor in the success of the school.

DES was established in the early 1950s by British Petroleum, the operators of the Dukhan Field at the time. As oil operations have grown, the school has expanded and Dukhan is now a multi-national town with residents of almost 50 different nationalities. This is an exciting time for DES: a new, purpose-built primary school opened in August 2018 for pupils aged 3-11 and a new secondary school is planned. The Principal of DES will have a unique opportunity to play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of its development.

  • The core purpose of the Principal is to provide outstanding professional leadership and management at DES, establishing a culture that promotes excellence and high expectations for all.
  • The Principal will be responsible for developing an ethos that inspires and motivates students, staff and key stakeholders to create a vibrant learning environment that supports academic success and a holistic approach to student wellbeing.
  • The Principal will provide a clear vision to give strategic direction under the overall supervision of the Head of Education, in formulating, implementing and reviewing the school improvement plan.

In addition to the Principal, the Senior Leadership Team comprises the Head of Secondary, Head of Primary, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Leader and four Assistant Heads.

Salary: highly competitive remuneration and an extensive benefits package that is supportive of the needs of families

Dukhan English School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
