Some recent trends have reminded me of this difficult stage in my career when I sensed that I had been de-professionalized and that many of the principles on which my moral philosophy had been based were no longer respected. While schools must be business-like they are not businesses but complex institutions embracing learning, culture, integrity. The “stakeholders” include not just current governors and staff but also those from both previous and following generations. Governors truly are trustees who should always have the long-term interests of the school at heart. While heads are tenants rather than landlords while in office it is their skill, resilience, decency and humanity that matter more than anything else in determining the sanity and integrity of a school. As year 2 of COVID approaches what a mission to have! All of you in schools have the respect of AMC as we enter 2021.
