What an extraordinary world our Generation Alphas are growing up in. The oldest – aged 12’s have already been exposed to a plethora of major world events – Brexit, US elections, climate change, a global pandemic, and now a war, to name a few. Was there such a magnitude of global issues in Gen X’s first 12 years?
Achieving a fine balance of exposure and discussion on these topics with Alpha kids is crucial. Their mental health, wellbeing and importance of building resilience are at the forefront of many parents, carers and educators minds. Protecting them, yet not wrapping them in cotton wool; listening to their voices, thoughts and opinions; helping to prepare them for their futures, is what we, the Gen X’s and Boomers collectively aim to do.
On last week’s AMC ‘Wine & Discuss’ event, with a number of esteemed guests, the topic was ‘Generation Alpha: who chooses schools?’. The hour left us struck by the insight as we discussed the power and impact of this generation and the challenging future ahead of them. Some key questions for the here and now: Is the school curriculum fit for purpose? Is it engaging Gen A’s and equipping them with the skills they need now and in the future? Alpha kids want authenticity and transparency in the brand mission and values – do schools, which are also brands, instil and promote their own culture and brand values and live and breathe their vision?
AMC provide tailored Inset sessions and workshops to schools leaders and teachers – if you would like to discuss this with us, please contact ku.oc.drallimynohtna@ahsatan
